Pioneering Dough Production Line Solutions for More Than 60 Years
Every company gets its start somewhere. At AM Manufacturing, we’re proud of our roots. The development of the Scale-O-Matic Dough Divider in the 1950s by Harold Atwood, founder of AM Manufacturing, began the company’s legendary role as a leader in the baking industry. Before founding AM Manufacturing, he devised an idea to simplify the hat-making process. He patented machines that automatically sanded down the brims of hats in minutes, eliminating the time-consuming process of doing the work by hand. Once the invention succeeded, Mr. Atwood began designing the equipment that set the course for his career.
With his interest turning to the food and baking industry in the mid-1950s, he developed a hydraulic pie crust maker that pressed uniform shells. After the invention of the Scale-O-Matic Divider, he set his sights on the bagel industry. To eliminate the tedious process of dividing dough and rolling bagels by hand, Mr. Atwood invented a single machine to evenly divide dough, run it along a conveyor, and automatically shape it. This labor and time-saving machine was called the Scale-A-Bagel and set the early growth stages of AM Manufacturing.
